A BRAIN & BODY APPROACH
Brainspotting is a treatment method that works by identifying, processing, and releasing brain/body sources of emotional and body pain, trauma, dissociation, and a variety of other challenging symptoms, to bring about more healing and wellness.
One thing clients might notice is different: the therapist is less likely to be directive or to point out connections in what you’re reporting. In this way, your brain is better able to make the connections and insight it needs, with minimal interference.
WHAT A SESSION
IS LIKE
A brainspotting session is always collaborative. Every client’s experience is different.
- 1 CHOOSE A FOCUS Once you’ve identified a thought, feeling, or behavior you want to focus on, we begin.
- 2 FIND THE BRAINSPOT Together we find an eye position that creates some activation, watching for cues like rapid blinking, swallowing, a tightening jaw or a change in breathing.
- 3 NOTICE & PROCESS You notice what’s happening in mind and body, out loud or in silence. Memories, sensations, imagery or shifts in emotion can arise.
- 4 DEBRIEF At the end of processing, we leave time to talk it through and discuss ways to support you between sessions.
Experiencing some mental or physical discomfort can be normal during this process, as we need to “feel it to heal it.” I stay attuned to your emotional state and help guide you through it.
Most clients report a lower activation level at the end of a session, but some need multiple sessions to “clear” a concern.
